Overview

Autologous peripheral blood CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells are a cell therapy product that leverages the regenerative and angiogenic potential of CD34-positive progenitor cells. Collected from the patient's own blood after mobilization (typically with G-CSF), these cells are enriched for the CD34 surface marker and delivered to sites of tissue damage, such as non-union fractures or ischemic limbs. The therapeutic effect is primarily mediated by the secretion of pro-angiogenic growth factors and the potential for these cells to differentiate into endothelial cells, thereby promoting the formation of new microvasculature and facilitating tissue repair and bone healing. This specific therapeutic approach has been extensively developed in Japan with support from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) for regenerative medicine applications.
