Overview

This therapy is a **combination** of autologous peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and sargramostim. PBMCs are a heterogeneous cell population containing lymphocytes (T cells, B cells, NK cells) and monocytes, isolated from a patient's own (autologous) blood. Sargramostim is a recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) that stimulates proliferation, differentiation, and activation of granulocytes, monocytes, macrophages, and enhances myelopoiesis. The combination is used experimentally as an immunotherapy approach, typically to enhance immune reconstitution after chemotherapy, to stimulate anti-tumor immune responses, or as part of cell-based adoptive immunotherapy protocols (e.g., for various cancers). In such regimens, PBMCs may be collected, activated, or expanded ex vivo, and reinfused, alongside or followed by administration of sargramostim to support their activity, proliferation, and immune function[2][3].
