Autologous platelet gel (APG), often referred to as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel, is a concentrated suspension of platelets and growth factors derived from a patient's own blood. It is produced by centrifuging whole blood to isolate the platelet-rich fraction, which is then activated (often with thrombin or calcium) to form a gel-like fibrin matrix. This matrix serves as a scaffold that slowly releases bioactive proteins, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and various cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α). These factors promote angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and collagen synthesis, thereby accelerating wound healing and tissue regeneration. It is primarily used in postoperative wound care, orthopedic surgery, and dental procedures.
