Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative biologic therapy prepared from a patient's own peripheral blood, concentrated to provide a high density of platelets and associated growth factors. In the treatment of Female Orgasmic Disorder (FOD), PRP is administered via local injections into the peri-urethral and clitoral tissues. The mechanism of action involves the release of growth factors—including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta), and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)—which stimulate neovascularization, collagen deposition, and nerve regeneration. These physiological changes are intended to increase blood flow and tissue sensitivity, thereby improving orgasmic function. This specific intervention has been evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT03189238) led by the Center for Vulvovaginal Disorders.
