Overview

This is an autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine developed by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The therapeutic approach involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells from their blood, which are then pulsed (loaded) with patient-specific tumor antigens, specifically either idiotype proteins or tumor lysates derived from the patient's myeloma cells. These dendritic cells are matured and co-administered with keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH), which serves as an adjuvant to enhance the immunogenic response. The vaccine is administered via subcutaneous or intranodal injection to stimulate a targeted anti-tumor T-cell response. It was primarily evaluated in a Phase II clinical setting (Trial UARK 2000-46) for high-risk patients following a pre-treatment chemotherapy regimen (DT-PACE).
