Overview

This autologous tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy is an adoptive cell therapy being developed by Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) for the treatment of recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. The therapeutic process involves harvesting TILs from a patient's tumor tissue, expanding these immune cells to large numbers ex vivo, and then re-infusing them into the patient. In the LUMC clinical protocol (OVACURE), the TILs are administered during a specific window created by carboplatin and paclitaxel chemotherapy, which is hypothesized to reduce systemic immunosuppression and enhance the anti-tumor activity of the infused T cells. The therapy aims to leverage the patient's own immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells through the recognition of a broad repertoire of tumor-specific antigens and neoantigens.
