This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational personalized immunotherapy developed for the treatment of malignant gliomas, including glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own peripheral blood mononuclear cells, differentiating them into dendritic cells, and pulsing them with autologous tumor lysate to present a broad spectrum of patient-specific tumor antigens. Administered intradermally, the vaccine is designed to prime the immune system to recognize and attack glioma cells. In clinical trials led by Dr. Macarena De La Fuente, the vaccine was used in a regimen that included the topical adjuvant imiquimod (a TLR7 agonist) and subsequent tumor lysate boosts to enhance the anti-tumor T-cell response.
