This investigational immunotherapy combination consists of an autologous dendritic cell (DC) vaccine pulsed with tumor lysate antigens, administered in conjunction with the Toll-like receptor (TLR) 7/8 agonist resiquimod. Developed by the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA, the vaccine is produced by isolating a patient's own dendritic cells and loading them with antigens derived from the patient's own tumor tissue (lysate). This process is designed to prime the immune system to recognize and attack specific intracranial tumor cells. Resiquimod is used as an adjuvant, typically applied topically at the vaccination site, to enhance the maturation of the dendritic cells and stimulate a robust T-cell-mediated anti-tumor response. The combination has been primarily evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of malignant gliomas, including glioblastoma multiforme.
