Overview

This is an investigational personalized cancer vaccine developed by researchers at Oslo University Hospital for the treatment of advanced malignant melanoma. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's monocytes via leukapheresis, differentiating them into dendritic cells, and then transfecting these cells with mRNA extracted from the patient's own tumor tissue using electroporation. These matured, mRNA-loaded dendritic cells are then re-administered to the patient (intradermally or intranodally) to stimulate a T-cell-mediated immune response against a broad range of tumor-associated antigens and patient-specific neoantigens. Clinical evaluation in Phase I/II trials has demonstrated the vaccine's safety and ability to elicit immunological responses, with some evidence of clinical benefit in patients with stage IV disease.
