Overview

This autologous umbilical cord blood mononuclear cell therapy is an investigational biologic developed by Mononuclear Therapeutics Ltd. for the treatment of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and neonatal anemia. The therapy involves the collection of a newborn's own umbilical cord blood at birth, which is then processed using the SynGeneX-1000 system to isolate the mononuclear cell fraction. This fraction contains a diverse population of cells, including hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, lymphocytes, and monocytes. Administered intravenously within 48 hours of birth, the therapy aims to mitigate brain injury through neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects, while also promoting neural plasticity and addressing anemia. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety and feasibility.
