Overview

Autologous unfractionated bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN). This therapy involves the extraction of a patient's own bone marrow, from which the mononuclear cell fraction is isolated without specific cell-type selection. These cells are then delivered via intracoronary infusion into the infarct-related artery following an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The therapeutic intent is to promote myocardial repair and improve left ventricular function through paracrine effects, such as the release of growth factors and cytokines that stimulate angiogenesis and limit apoptosis in the damaged heart tissue. This specific preparation was the subject of the Phase 2 TIME and LateTIME clinical trials, which explored the safety and efficacy of cell delivery at different intervals (3-7 days and 2-3 weeks, respectively) after a heart attack.
