AV-GBM-1 + granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor is a personalized autologous dendritic cell vaccine combination developed by Aivita Biomedical for the treatment of newly diagnosed glioblastoma. The vaccine component, AV-GBM-1, is produced by loading a patient's own dendritic cells with a lysate of irradiated autologous tumor-initiating cells (TICs) harvested from the patient's tumor. This approach is designed to target the self-renewing cells responsible for tumor growth and recurrence. The vaccine is administered subcutaneously alongside 500 μg of granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), which functions as an immune adjuvant to enhance the presentation of tumor antigens and boost the overall anti-tumor immune response. A Phase II clinical trial has evaluated its safety and efficacy in patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma.
