AV2 (CESA Alliance)

AV2 (also known as Antiviral AV2) is a topical antiviral formulation composed of a mixture of four natural essential oil components—carvone, eugenol, geraniol, and nerolidol—diluted in olive oil. Developed by Cesa Alliance and investigated by researchers including Jean-Pierre Van Geertruyden, the drug is designed as a virucidal spray for the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated precancerous cervical lesions (uterine cervical dysplasia). While Phase II trials suggested efficacy in reducing lesion size, a Phase III randomized placebo-controlled trial in the Democratic Republic of the Congo indicated that while AV2 could induce lesion regression, its efficacy did not significantly surpass that of the placebo.
