**Avacincaptad pegol + aflibercept** is a combination therapy consisting of avacincaptad pegol, a pegylated RNA aptamer that inhibits complement component 5 (C5), and aflibercept, a recombinant fusion protein acting as a soluble decoy receptor for vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF-A, VEGF-B) and placental growth factor (PIGF). **Avacincaptad pegol** blocks C5, interrupting the complement cascade, thus preventing inflammatory and cell-destroying events implicated in geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD)[1][3][5]. **Aflibercept** binds and neutralizes VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PIGF, thus inhibiting angiogenesis and vascular leakage, and is widely used in neovascular (wet) AMD and other retinal vascular diseases[2][4][6]. The combination is being explored for synergistic or complementary effects in AMD and related ocular diseases—targeting both immune-mediated retinal degeneration and pathological angiogenesis.
