Overview

avelumab + bevacizumab (Avesta Biotherapeutics & Research) is a combination therapy comprising biosimilar versions of the monoclonal antibodies avelumab and bevacizumab. Avelumab is a human IgG1 anti-PD-L1 antibody that functions as an immune checkpoint inhibitor; it blocks the interaction between programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and its receptors, PD-1 and B7.1, thereby restoring anti-tumor T-cell activity. Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), a key mediator of angiogenesis. By neutralizing VEGF-A, bevacizumab inhibits the formation of new blood vessels that supply tumors with oxygen and nutrients, while also potentially normalizing tumor vasculature to enhance the delivery of immunotherapy. Developed by Avesta Biotherapeutics & Research (a subsidiary of Avesthagen), this combination is intended for the treatment of various solid tumors, including lung, renal, colorectal, and ovarian cancers, and has reached the regulatory filing stage in India.
