Avian Encephalomyelitis Vaccine (MEVAC)

Avian Encephalomyelitis Vaccine (MEVAC) is a veterinary vaccine developed by Middle East for Vaccines (MEVAC) for the immunization of poultry against Avian Encephalomyelitis (AE). AE is an infectious viral disease caused by the Avian Encephalomyelitis Virus (AEV), a member of the Picornaviridae family, which primarily affects young chickens, causing neurological symptoms such as ataxia and tremors (often called "epidemic tremors"). In adult laying birds, the virus causes a temporary but significant drop in egg production. The vaccine is typically a live-attenuated formulation designed to induce a protective immune response in pullets before they begin laying. This immunization protects the hens from production drops and ensures the transfer of maternal antibodies to their progeny, providing passive immunity to chicks during their first few weeks of life when they are most susceptible to the disease.
