Avian Influenza Vaccine, H5N1 Subtype, Killed Virus, developed and manufactured by Zoetis, is a veterinary vaccine designed to prevent disease caused by the H5N1 subtype of avian influenza virus in chickens. As a killed virus vaccine, it contains inactivated viral particles that stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies and cellular immunity without causing the actual disease. Zoetis received a conditional license from the USDA for this vaccine, and it has been supplied for the national veterinary stockpile as part of pandemic preparedness efforts.
