Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A veterinary vaccine indicated for the immunization of healthy chickens (3 weeks of age or older) against disease caused by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses of the H5 subtype. This inactivated (killed virus) vaccine contains avian influenza virus isolates rgH5N2—specifically A/turkey/Indiana/22-003707-003/2022 H5; A/chicken/Egypt/D5490B/2012 N2; and a PR8 backbone. The product is administered as a single 0.5 mL subcutaneous dose and is conditionally licensed by the USDA based on demonstration of safety, purity, and reasonable expectation of efficacy from serology data. It is used exclusively under official animal disease control programs in the United States to help protect poultry flocks from circulating strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza[1][2][3][6]. The N2 designation helps differentiate vaccinated birds from naturally infected ones[5]. Developed and manufactured by Zoetis.
