AvidinOX + biotinylated cetuximab is an experimental therapeutic combination developed by Kiran Biotech for the treatment of EGFR-expressing lung tumors. The technology utilizes the AvidinOX platform, which consists of chemically oxidized avidin that, when injected locally, covalently binds to tissue proteins to create a stable and long-lasting "artificial receptor." This receptor serves as a docking station for biotinylated therapeutic agents. In this specific application, biotinylated cetuximab—a monoclonal antibody targeting the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR)—is administered to bind to the AvidinOX-anchored tissues. This mechanism enables the concentration of cetuximab at the tumor site, enhancing its inhibitory effect on EGFR signaling while reducing systemic exposure and associated toxicities. The approach is currently in preclinical development.
