Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AXN-001 is a plant-derived small molecule and natural product program developed by Axonova Pharma in collaboration with the University of Mauritius. It functions as a modulator of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor, tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB), a pathway critical for neuronal survival and plasticity. The drug is derived from a library of Mauritian medicinal plant extracts selected for their neuroprotective properties. Currently in the preclinical stage, AXN-001 is being developed for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions, specifically Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The research is supported by funding from the Mauritius Research Council (MRC-BRIG).
