AZD1222 + MVC-COV1901 is a combination regimen involving two distinct COVID-19 vaccines used in a heterologous (mix-and-match) vaccination or booster strategy. AZD1222 (also known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) is a recombinant adenoviral vector vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford that encodes the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to induce an immune response. MVC-COV1901 is a protein subunit vaccine developed by Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation; it contains the stabilized prefusion spike protein S-2P adjuvanted with CpG 1018 and aluminum hydroxide. The combination has been studied for its safety and immunogenicity as either primary series or as heterologous booster regimens. Studies show that using MVC-COV1901 after two doses of AZD1222 significantly boosts anti-spike IgG and neutralizing antibody titers—including against variants such as Omicron—compared to homologous regimens[3][5]. Both vaccines elicit Th1-skewed immune responses[1]. This mix-and-match approach aims to enhance protection against severe outcomes from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
