**AZD1656 + pioglitazone** is a combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. AZD1656 is a glucokinase activator developed to enhance glucose-dependent insulin release by increasing the activity of glucokinase, a key enzyme in the regulation of carbohydrate metabolism.
