Drug intelligence / Profile preview
azelaic acid + aminexil is a novel topical eutectic mixture being developed by Zhiyan Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Ziyond Pharmaceutical) and Shanghai University for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The combination leverages the complementary mechanisms of azelaic acid, a 5α-reductase inhibitor that reduces dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels and perifollicular inflammation, and aminexil (diaminopyrimidine oxide), an antifibrotic agent that inhibits lysyl hydroxylase and lysyl oxidase to prevent collagen rigidification around hair follicles. Preclinical studies demonstrate that the eutectic mixture synergistically promotes human dermal papilla cell (hDPC) proliferation, activates the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, upregulates VERSICAN and VEGF expression, and inhibits type II 5α-reductase, offering a multi-target topical strategy to reverse DHT-induced follicular miniaturization.
