Overview

**Azilsartan medoxomil + chlorthalidone** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination containing azilsartan medoxomil, a prodrug converted to the selective angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker azilsartan, and chlorthalidone, a long-acting thiazide-like diuretic. The complementary mechanisms reduce vascular angiotensin II signaling and inhibit renal sodium and chloride reabsorption, thereby lowering blood pressure. It is approved for treatment of hypertension, including use when monotherapy is insufficient and as initial therapy in patients likely to require multiple agents. The combination was developed by Takeda and is marketed as Edarbyclor in the United States. ([accessdata.fda.gov](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2020/202331s016lbl.pdf))
