Azilsartan medoxomil + olmesartan is a combination of two angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) used primarily for the treatment of hypertension. Both drugs act as selective antagonists at the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, thereby inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Azilsartan medoxomil is a prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed to its active form, azilsartan, after oral administration. It has high affinity for AT1 receptors and may also exert pleiotropic benefits through Mas receptor stimulation, potentially reducing vascular inflammation and improving metabolic parameters[5][6]. Olmesartan also selectively blocks AT1 receptors in vascular smooth muscle with high specificity, leading to reduced blood pressure by decreasing peripheral resistance[4][8]. Both agents are indicated for hypertension management either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive therapies.
