Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Agifit is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing the macrolide antibiotic azithromycin and the probiotic Lactic Bacillus (often *Bacillus coagulans* or *Lactobacillus* species). Marketed by Max Life Sciences (Max India) as a generic formulation, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. Azithromycin exerts its antimicrobial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. The inclusion of Lactic Bacillus serves to restore and maintain healthy intestinal flora, which is intended to mitigate antibiotic-associated diarrhea and other gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy.
