Overview

This combination therapy consists of the macrolide antibiotic azithromycin and oral probiotics, being investigated for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Azithromycin exerts its effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, such as *Cutibacterium acnes*, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and reducing inflammation. The addition of probiotics is intended to modulate the gut-skin axis, potentially reducing systemic inflammation and counteracting the dysbiosis often associated with long-term antibiotic use. This specific regimen is being evaluated in a Phase 4 clinical trial sponsored by the Hayatabad Medical Complex to compare its efficacy against azithromycin monotherapy in managing lesion counts and improving patient outcomes.
