Overview

Gynagone (also marketed as Gynagone Kit) is a co-packaged syndromic management kit developed and manufactured by Laboratory & Allied. It is approved in East African countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, for the treatment of gynecological and vaginal infections (such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, candidiasis, and mixed infections). The kit contains three active pharmaceutical ingredients: azithromycin (a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit), fluconazole (a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase), and secnidazole (a nitroimidazole antimicrobial that undergoes intracellular reduction to form reactive intermediates that damage microbial DNA).
