Azvudine + cyclophosphamide is an investigational combination therapy being developed by Bio Genuine for the treatment of lymphoma. The combination consists of azvudine, a nucleoside analog, and cyclophosphamide (CTX), a nitrogen mustard alkylating agent. Azvudine was originally developed as a reverse transcriptase inhibitor for viral infections like HIV and COVID-19, but it has been repurposed for oncology due to its ability to target myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and inhibit DNA synthesis. Cyclophosphamide is a classic chemotherapy agent that works by forming covalent bonds with DNA, leading to DNA cross-linking and the induction of apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. By combining these two agents, the therapy aims to provide a synergistic anti-tumor effect by targeting both the tumor cells' DNA replication machinery and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.
