Overview
Shuangshubao (爽舒宝) is an approved, orally administered live probiotic pharmaceutical product developed and manufactured by Eastsea Pharmaceutical (Qingdao Eastsea Pharmaceutical). It consists of live *Bacillus coagulans* (specifically the proprietary strain TBC169), which is formulated as a tablet. Shuangshubao is approved in China for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders associated with gut microbiome dysbiosis, including acute and chronic diarrhea, chronic constipation, abdominal distension, and dyspepsia. The *Bacillus coagulans* TBC169 strain forms highly stable spores that resist gastric acid and bile, allowing them to reach the intestines where they germinate, produce lactic acid and digestive enzymes, and inhibit pathogenic bacteria. In addition to its approved gastrointestinal indications, Shuangshubao has been investigated in clinical trials as an adjunctive therapy for COVID-19 (to support immune function), *Helicobacter pylori* eradication, Parkinson's disease-associated constipation, and acne.
