Overview
Bacitracin zinc + polymyxin b sulfate + neomycin is a topical ophthalmic triple-antibiotic small-molecule combination used for superficial bacterial infections of the external eye and adnexa, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis, and blepharoconjunctivitis. The product combines neomycin, an aminoglycoside that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding the bacterial ribosome; polymyxin b, a polypeptide antibiotic that disrupts gram-negative bacterial cell membrane integrity; and bacitracin, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is formulated as an ophthalmic ointment and marketed under brand names including Neosporin and Neo-Polycin; manufacturers mentioned in public labeling and product descriptions include Bausch & Lomb.
