Overview

Baclofen + botulinum toxin type A is a combination therapy used primarily for the management of spasticity, particularly in conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, and other neurological disorders. Baclofen is a centrally acting muscle relaxant and GABA-B receptor agonist that reduces spasticity by inhibiting excitatory neurotransmitter release in the central nervous system. Botulinum toxin type A is a neurotoxin that acts peripherally at the neuromuscular junction to inhibit acetylcholine release, resulting in localized muscle relaxation and reduction of focal spasticity. The combination leverages both systemic (baclofen) and local (botulinum toxin) mechanisms to provide comprehensive control of muscle tone abnormalities, improve pain, quality of life, self-care ability, and facilitate rehabilitation programs[1][2][4][7][8].
