Overview

Baclofen + diazepam is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs used primarily for the management of muscle spasticity and related conditions. Baclofen is a skeletal muscle relaxant and antispastic agent that acts as an agonist at gamma-aminobutyric acid type B (GABA-B) receptors in the central nervous system, leading to inhibition of synaptic transmission and reduction in muscle tone[7][10]. Diazepam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at GABA-A receptors, producing anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, and muscle relaxant effects[5][6]. The combination may be used in certain compounded formulations for severe or refractory cases of spasticity or pain syndromes but should be administered with caution due to additive central nervous system depressant effects[3][1]. Both agents are approved individually for use in spasticity; their combined use increases risk for sedation, respiratory depression, dizziness, and other CNS-related side effects.
