Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baihu Decoction + Renshen Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula historically used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and related metabolic disorders. The combination is also known as Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction or Bai-Hu-Jia-Ren-Shen-Tang. It has been shown in both clinical and preclinical studies to improve insulin resistance and lower blood glucose levels in diabetic patients and animal models[1][2][5]. Mechanistically, this formula appears to exert its effects by modulating gut microbiota composition, enhancing gut barrier function (increasing tight junction proteins such as ZO-1 and occludin), reducing systemic inflammation via inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, decreasing oxidative stress markers, improving liver and kidney function parameters, lowering serum triglycerides and hepatic lipid accumulation through activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and altering lipid metabolism[2][3]. The prescription is widely used in TCM practice for symptoms such as excessive thirst associated with diabetes.
