Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Batefenterol + fluticasone furoate is a fixed-dose combination drug that was developed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Batefenterol acts as both a beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist and a muscarinic receptor antagonist, providing bronchodilation through dual mechanisms. Fluticasone furoate is an inhaled corticosteroid that acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, reducing airway inflammation. The combination was intended to provide comprehensive management of COPD symptoms by targeting bronchoconstriction and inflammation simultaneously. Development was led by GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) in collaboration with Innoviva (formerly Theravance). Clinical development for COPD has been discontinued[4].
