Overview

BBIBP-CorV + BNT162b2 is a heterologous combination regimen of two distinct COVID-19 vaccines. BBIBP-CorV is an inactivated whole-virus SARS-CoV-2 vaccine developed by Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products (a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group/Sinopharm). It induces immunity by presenting the immune system with chemically inactivated virus particles and uses alum as an adjuvant[2][8]. BNT162b2 (Comirnaty) is an mRNA-based vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer; it encodes the full-length spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles to induce robust humoral and cellular immune responses. The combination regimen typically involves priming with two doses of BBIBP-CorV followed by a booster dose with BNT162b2. This heterologous approach has been shown to elicit strong neutralizing antibody responses against variants such as Delta and Omicron, often superior to homologous regimens using only one platform[5][9]. Both vaccines are administered intramuscularly.
