Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The BCG vaccine produced by PT Bio Farma is a live attenuated biological vaccine derived from the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) strain of *Mycobacterium bovis*. It is primarily used for active immunization against tuberculosis (TB), targeting the prevention of disease caused by *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* infection. As a freeze-dried preparation, it has been a staple of Indonesia's basic immunization program since 1977, administered primarily to infants and children. PT Bio Farma, an Indonesian state-owned manufacturer, is one of the largest vaccine producers in Southeast Asia and supplies this vaccine globally under WHO pre-qualification status. Recent clinical research by the company includes Phase 2 bridging studies to evaluate the safety and tuberculin conversion of a multi-dose vial presentation compared to the traditional registered ampoule format.
