Overview

This BCMA-targeted CAR-T cell therapy is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor T-cell immunotherapy developed by the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The therapy consists of T cells genetically modified to express a CAR targeting the B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA; TNFRSF17), which is highly and specifically expressed on the surface of multiple myeloma cells. Upon infusion, these engineered T cells recognize and bind to BCMA, triggering T-cell activation, proliferation, and the subsequent lysis of the malignant plasma cells. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for both relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma and as a consolidation or frontline therapy in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM), particularly in younger patients, where it is studied in conjunction with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) to improve deep response rates and long-term outcomes.
