Overview

BDB-001 + cyclophosphamide is a **combination of a recombinant human monoclonal antibody (BDB-001), which specifically binds to and neutralizes complement fragment C5a, and cyclophosphamide, a synthetic alkylating agent that functions as both an antineoplastic and immunosuppressive drug**. BDB-001, developed by Staidson (Beijing) Biopharma, is a human IgG4 antibody that blocks the pro-inflammatory activities of C5a without interfering with the formation of the membrane attack complex, making it of potential use in conditions linked to complement overactivation such as severe COVID-19 and acute inflammatory syndromes[1][3][7]. Cyclophosphamide acts via DNA cross-linking to inhibit rapidly dividing cells and is widely used to treat cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, breast cancer, and several autoimmune diseases for its immunosuppressive effects[2][4][6][8]. The combination of BDB-001 and cyclophosphamide is investigational and would be expected to couple direct suppression of inflammatory complement components (by BDB-001) with broad immunosuppression through DNA alkylation (by cyclophosphamide).
