Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BE-101** is BiomEdit's engineered probiotic vectored antibody biologic for preventing mortality associated with necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens. The investigational veterinary product uses genetically engineered commensal *Limosilactobacillus reuteri* probiotic vectors to deliver toxin-neutralizing antibody fragments locally in the gastrointestinal tract. Its intended mechanism is neutralization of key *Clostridium perfringens* virulence toxins, including NetB and alpha toxin, thereby reducing toxin-mediated intestinal injury, mortality, and production losses associated with necrotic enteritis. BiomEdit plans to commercialize the product as **Optavant** after full licensure; as of August 2026, it remains in the final stages of the USDA conditional-licensure process.
