**BEC2 + BCG** is a combination immunotherapeutic regimen consisting of **BEC2**, a murine (mouse-derived) anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibody that mimics the GD3 ganglioside, and **BCG** (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin), a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis commonly used as an immunostimulant. BEC2 acts as a surrogate antigen for the GD3 ganglioside, stimulating the immune system against tumors expressing GD3 (notably of neuroectodermal origin, such as small-cell lung cancer and melanoma). BCG enhances immune reactivity at the site of administration. Clinical studies have investigated the combination as an adjuvant vaccine in patients with limited-disease small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) post-chemotherapy/radiation, and in melanoma, aiming to induce humoral and cellular immune responses against tumor-associated GD3. However, phase III data showed that the combination did not prolong survival in SCLC overall, though patients who mounted a measurable antibody response may have benefited. The primary adverse effects were mild and included local injection site reactions and transient flu-like symptoms[2][4].
