becaplermin + Promagran Dressing is a combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of chronic wounds, specifically venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers. Becaplermin is a recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (rhPDGF-BB) that promotes wound healing by binding to and activating PDGF receptor-α and PDGF receptor-β, which stimulates the chemotaxis and proliferation of cells involved in tissue repair. Promagran is a protease-modulating wound dressing composed of collagen and oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC). The rationale for the combination is that Promagran inhibits the excessive protease activity found in chronic wounds, which would otherwise degrade topically applied growth factors like becaplermin, thereby enhancing the biological activity and clinical efficacy of the treatment.
