Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beclometasone dipropionate + formoterol fumarate is an inhaled, extrafine fixed-dose combination of an inhaled corticosteroid and a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist developed by Chiesi. Beclometasone dipropionate is a prodrug corticosteroid whose active metabolite exerts anti-inflammatory activity through the glucocorticoid receptor, while formoterol provides rapid and sustained bronchodilation through beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonism. The combination is supplied as pressurized metered-dose inhalation aerosol and dry-powder inhalation formulations for maintenance treatment of asthma and for symptomatic treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in approved markets.
