Overview

CHF 5259 + Qvar is an investigational combination therapy developed by Chiesi Farmaceutici for the treatment of uncontrolled asthma. It consists of CHF 5259, an extra-fine pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) formulation of glycopyrronium bromide (a long-acting muscarinic antagonist or LAMA), administered as an add-on to QVAR (beclometasone dipropionate), an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS). Glycopyrronium bromide acts as a bronchodilator by antagonizing M3 muscarinic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, while beclometasone dipropionate provides anti-inflammatory effects. This combination was evaluated in the Phase IIb ELITRA trial (NCT02296411) to assess its efficacy and safety in adult patients whose asthma remains uncontrolled on low-to-medium dose inhaled corticosteroids.
