Overview

Beclomethasone + ipratropium bromide is a combination of two inhaled medications used primarily for the management of respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and, in some cases, asthma. Beclomethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting multiple types of inflammatory cells and decreasing the production of mediators involved in inflammation. Ipratropium bromide is a short-acting muscarinic antagonist (anticholinergic) that works by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in airway smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation and reduced bronchial secretions. The combination aims to provide both anti-inflammatory effects (from beclomethasone) and bronchodilation (from ipratropium), potentially improving symptom control compared to either agent alone[1][3][6]. This combination may be administered via nebulizer or nasal spray depending on indication.
