Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beclomethasone dipropionate + prednisolone is a combination of two synthetic corticosteroids, each with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. Beclomethasone dipropionate is primarily used as an inhaled corticosteroid for the long-term management of asthma and other chronic inflammatory respiratory conditions, acting locally in the lungs to reduce airway inflammation and hyper-reactivity. Prednisolone is a systemic corticosteroid used to treat a wide range of inflammatory, allergic, autoimmune, and endocrine disorders; it exerts its effects throughout the body by modulating gene expression to suppress immune responses and inflammation. When combined, these agents may provide additive or synergistic suppression of inflammation but also increase the risk for systemic side effects such as hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression[1][3][5]. This combination may be considered in severe or refractory cases where both local (inhaled) and systemic anti-inflammatory actions are required.
