Overview

Bedside CD19 CAR T-cell therapy is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by The General Hospital of Western Theater Command. This specific product is characterized by its "bedside" or point-of-care manufacturing process, which is designed to occur within the treatment facility to potentially reduce the time and logistical complexity associated with centralized manufacturing. The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that targets the B-lymphocyte antigen CD19, a protein expressed on the surface of most B-cell malignancies. Once re-infused, these engineered T cells recognize and eliminate CD19-positive leukemia cells. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of adults with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL).
