This therapeutic intervention is an East-West collaborative treatment combining Bee Venom Acupuncture (BVA) with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) loxoprofen. Developed and studied by Kyunghee University Medical Center, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic non-specific neck pain (cervicalgia). BVA involves the subcutaneous injection of purified, diluted bee venom into specific acupoints, combining mechanical needle stimulation with the pharmacological effects of bioactive bee venom components such as melittin, apamin, and adolapamin. These components are thought to exert anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects by modulating inflammatory cytokines and signaling pathways. Loxoprofen provides complementary systemic analgesia through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
