Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Belatacept + efalizumab is an investigational combination of two immunosuppressive agents that work through different mechanisms to modulate T-cell activity. Belatacept is a fusion protein that selectively blocks T-cell costimulation by binding to CD80/CD86 receptors on antigen-presenting cells, preventing interaction with CD28 on T-cells. Efalizumab is a monoclonal antibody that binds to CD11a, a subunit of leukocyte function antigen-1 (LFA-1), decreasing cell surface expression and interfering with T-cell activation and migration. The combination may provide enhanced immunosuppression through dual targeting of different T-cell activation pathways.
