Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bell's Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP is a topical small molecule formulation developed by Bell's Healthcare for the management of superficial skin infections such as boils, abscesses, and carbuncles. It contains dried magnesium sulphate (47.76% w/w) and phenol (0.49% w/w) in a glycerol base. The paste acts as a hygroscopic agent, utilizing osmotic pressure to draw out pus, infection, and impurities from the skin while simultaneously reducing inflammation. It is also commonly used to facilitate the removal of embedded splinters and other foreign bodies. The product is applied liberally to the affected area and typically covered with a dressing to promote drainage and healing.
